Men Are Embracing the Cosmetic Surgery and the Beauty of Botox

Dermatologists who offer hair restoration and transplants as well as skin treatments have reported an 87% rise in male clients this year. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of men requesting Botox treatments has skyrocketed by 337% since 2000. Similarly, this year, RealSelf.com, an online community of people considering cosmetic procedures and those who have undergone procedure offering advice and recommendations, has seen a 59% jump in male visitors.

What’s behind this apparent change of heart among so many men?

One reason we may be seeing men considering cosmetic surgery procedures like Botox and CoolSculpting is because the procedures are so effective and the recover period is minutes or hours, not days or weeks. In addition, improved surgical procedures make it almost impossible for friends, coworkers, and family to see that “work has been done.” Rather, patients simply look “better” or “younger” without any telltale signs pointing to a specific reason.

Another possible factor is that the definition of masculinity is shifting. While men of a previous generation wouldn’t have considered altering their appearance with fillers or CoolSculpting, this generation of men isn’t bound by outdated ideas of how to achieve their ideal body. With more celebrities discussing their procedures openly, the idea of complementing exercise and a healthy diet with cosmetic procedures to attain a desired look is far less taboo than it once was.

And, like women, men recognize the competitive advantage feeling confident in your skin can have at work. When you look your best, you feel your best, whether you’re a man or a woman.
