Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose for cosmetic enhancement or to improve breathing. It can reduce the size, refine the tip, remove a hump, or enhance the angle between the nose and upper lip for balanced facial harmony. Some procedures also address septal issues to correct breathing problems.
Performed under twilight anesthesia, rhinoplasty involves precise incisions—either inside the nostrils (closed) or across the columella (open)—to reposition bone, cartilage, and soft tissue. Surgeons remove or remodel cartilage and bone, sometimes using grafts to strengthen structural support or restore volume. A nasal splint and sutures help maintain shape and stability during healing.
Patients typically have their splint and sutures removed after one week and feel comfortable returning to normal activities shortly after. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting are discouraged for at least two weeks to ensure proper healing. While mild swelling and bruising are expected, final results become more refined as swelling gradually subsides over time.
