JUVEDERM

Juvederm is a smooth-consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin. Hyaluronic acid plays a vital role in hydrating your skin and producing volume. Juvederm is injected under the skin to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds. Since hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in your body, no allergy tests are needed prior to receiving an injection of Juvederm. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvederm injectable gel offer a safe and effective non-surgical option for smoothing facial wrinkles and folds.

Juvederm requires minimal recovery or downtime. In addition, Juvederm is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler proven safe and effective for persons of color.

Juvederm is available in two formulations – Juvederm Ultra for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds, and Juvederm Ultra Plus, a more robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles. The versatility of Juvederm allows your doctor to tailor treatment to your unique needs.

How and where can Juvederm® be injected?

Juvederm is an in-office procedure that can take just minutes to erase years off your face. Juvederm is injected under the skin to restore volume to facial folds and wrinkles, like your “smile lines” or nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth. Juvederm is extremely versatile and can be used to plump up lips, add volume to your cheeks, and improve the tear troughs around your eyes.

Is a Juvederm® injection painful?

Your surgeon may apply a topical numbing cream prior to injection to decrease the sting of needle entry into the skin. A nerve block may also be performed if significant lip augmentation is performed. Many patients are very comfortable with the procedure and forgo numbing altogether. Each patient's pain tolerance is different, so be sure to discuss this with your doctor upon consultation.

Juvederm now comes in a new formulation that contains lidocaine (a local anesthetic). This product is called Juvederm XC. This new formulation has reduced the pain associated with injection, in some cases even allowing lip augmentation without the usual dental block.

What are the possible side-effects of injection with Juvederm?

Possible side-effects include bruising and swelling that is only temporary. Pain at the site of injection can occur occasionally and is also temporary.
